Questions and Answers

What are the registration fees & deadlines?

To receive the advance registration rate, registrations must be received on or before April 30, 2007.  Advance registration will close on Friday, May 25, 2007.  You will be able to register on site beginning Saturday, June 9, 2007.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment in full in required at the time of registration.  We can accept payments in the form of a check (made payable to Bread for the World Conference or credit card, VISA and MasterCard only.

How do I register?

  • Online (VISA/MasterCard only)
  • Download in pdf pdf and submit:
    • Via Fax (VISA/MasterCard only) complete the registration form in its entirety including credit card information and fax to 410.559.2217.
    • By Mail (check, VISA or MasterCard) complete the registration form in its entirety and mail to: Bread for the World, c/o YesEvents, PO Box 32862, Baltimore, MD 21282.  Payment in full must accompany your registration form.
  • By Telephone (VISA/MasterCard only) have your session selections made and call 800.937.8728.

What meals are included?

Conference registration fees include continental breakfast; breaks; lunch and dinner on Sunday and Monday; and continental breakfast on Tuesday.

What are the housing accommodations?

Limited on-site housing is available at American University. These are the options offered:

  • Anderson Hall – Double Occupancy: $63/per person, per night
    Anderson Hall is a traditional campus dormitory style residence.  Each room will have two single beds and a communal hall bathroom with individual shower stalls.  All residence hall facilities are fully air conditioned with in-room temperature controls and have wireless internet connectivity available.

  • Centennial Hall – Double Occupancy: $73/per person, per night
    Centennial Hall is a semi-private suite residence hall.  Each room will have two single beds and will share one bathroom in between two rooms.  These bathroom facilities are not accessible from the hallway, making it available only to the guests of the rooms on either side.  All residence hall facilities are fully air conditioned with in-room temperature controls and have wireless internet connectivity available.

  • Anderson Hall Single Rooms - Single Occupancy: $126, per night  
    To make reservations for a single room, please select that you do not need housing and complete your registration.  Once you have received your confirmation number, please call the Registration Office at 800-937-8728 to make your single room reservations.

  • Alternate Housing
    In order to keep conference costs as low as possible, we ask that you please reserve your room at American University as we have guaranteed these rooms as part of our contract.  However, if you wish to make alternate arrangements or you have requirements that require special considerations for housing during the conference please contact the Housing Office at BreadInfo@yesevents.com or 800-937-8728.

Can I request a roommate?

We will make every effort to honor special roommate requests. However, roommate requests cannot be guaranteed.  To ensure your special request is honored, we recommend that registrations are received on the same day. *If your requested roommate has not registered by May 1, 2007, a roommate will be assigned for you. 

Will you assign me a roommate if I'm coming alone?

Again, in order to keep costs down, that is our goal. We place men with men and women with women.  Roommate assignments will also be based on comparable arrival and departure dates.  Neither Bread for the World; ECLA or YesEvents are responsible for roommate incompatibility.  If the Housing Office is unable to place you with a roommate, you will be responsible for any additional costs. 

Are there other benefits of staying at American University?

  • Free Parking (a $12.00 per day savings)
  • Free Internet (a $5.00 per day savings)
  • Complimentary Fitness Center Passes
  • Complimentary Swimming Pool Passes

What about parking for people who are not staying at AU?

  • Parking at the University will run $12.00 per day for commuters. 

How do I get there (by car/metro/from the airport)?

The nearest metro stop is Tenleytown/AU on the red line. American University runs a shuttle from this stop to the campus. Check out the American University website for directions by car or metro. (The Gathering will be held on the Main Campus.)

Taxis from the two D.C. airports: 

  • National Airport: 20 minutes away from campus, approx. $20 cab ride
  • Dulles International:  45 minutes away from campus, approx. $35-45 cab ride

All times and costs are approximate and will depend on traffic, etc.

What is the refund and cancellation policy?

A refund less a $50.00 administrative fee will be processed for cancellation requests received on or before April 30, 2007.  Cancellations requests received after April 30, 2007, will be non-refundable pending review after the conclusion of the conference.

Is there a separate Emerging/Young Leaders Track?

The answer is an intentional "no." Bread for the World wants the Gathering 2007 to be a time when leaders and participants from colleges and persons in their 20’s and 30’s will be fully incorporated throughout the event in order to facilitate cross-generational learning and sharing. We welcome young leaders to attend the Gathering 2007 and have provided opportunities like the Coffee Shop (Open 24 hours!) to meet and connect with their peers.  A work exhange program is available pdf for those needing assistance to enable their participation. 

What is the ELCA Anti-Hunger Advocacy Day?

Featuring informative speakers, inspiring worship, and practical workshops, this event will equip Lutherans with knowledge and skills to lead their congregations, campuses, and communities in advocating against hunger and poverty in the U.S. and internationally. For more information, visit www.elca.org/advocacy/preconference.html.

What are the Saturday pre-conference group meetings?

A nominal fee of $50.00 will be added to your registration if you wish to participate.  For a list of group meetings that will be offered, please refer to the conference highlights.

How can I attend for a discount through the work exchange program?

A limited number of work exchange positions are available for conference attendees.  In exchange for your time as a volunteer, we would extend a discounted registration fee to attend the conference.  Download a work exchange application pdf and submit it prior to registering for the conference.

Are scholarships available?

A limited number of scholarships are available. Download or fill out an online form.
