A Fasting Prayer: My soul thirsts for you, O God

June 21, 2017

Editor’s note: Until the end of the 115th Congress, Bread for the World and its partners will be praying and fasting, as part of the For Such a Time as This: A Call to Prayer, Fasting, and Advocacy project, to ensure that lawmakers protect vital programs for people who struggle with hunger and poverty.

Dear God.
My soul thirsts for you, O God,
as I pray and reflect during this time of fast.
May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Holy Spirit, come alongside us as we plead senators
to protect vital Medicaid programs in their discernment
about the future of health care in our country.

Fill their hearts with you love and your peace
so that they may better understand the needs of
the people most vulnerable in our communities
and around the world.

God in your mercy, hear our prayers.
