There’s an old song about mothers that begins, “M is for the million things she gave me …” Today, M is for millions of thank yous on behalf of millions of mothers around the world. Thank you for honoring mothers by signing the Mother’s Day card to Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Patrick Leahy (Vt.) and Reps. Kay Granger (Texas-12) and Nita Lowey (N.Y.-17)!

More than 3,000 people signed the card urging these members of Congress to increase funding for nutrition in global health programs to $230 million next year.

I was proud to deliver the card with all of your signatures to these members of Congress this week during meetings with their staffs. The four legislators we targeted lead the committees writing the spending bill that will include nutrition funding. Delivering the card gave me the opportunity to educate them as to why investing in global nutrition is so important. All four offices have been longtime champions of global maternal and child nutrition and were excited that so many of you showed your support by signing the card.

You stepped out in faith, asking for $230 million for nutrition in global health programs. But when 500 million women suffer from anemia, a form of malnutrition, we must step up and urge our government to do more. This Mother’s Day, you honored mothers by calling for an end to malnutrition. Increasing U.S. government funding is our first step.

Your faithful advocacy is making a difference through the halls of Congress. Keep it up! Join us for Lobby Day on June 7, and make sure to schedule an Offering of Letters in your church.
