A Fasting Prayer: Christ is coming to make all things new

December 19, 2017
Join Bread for the World in prayer to end hunger

Editor’s note: Until the end of the 115th Congress, Bread for the World and its partners will be praying and fasting, as part of the For Such a Time as This: A Call to Prayer, Fasting, and Advocacy project, to ensure that lawmakers protect vital programs for people who struggle with hunger.

Among the poor,
Among the proud,
Among the persecuted,
Among the privileged,
Christ is coming,
Christ is coming to make all things new.

In the private house,
In the marketplace,
In the wedding feast,
In the judgement hall,
Christ is coming,
Christ is coming to make all things new.

As we fast,
As we pray,
As we advocate,
As we wait on God to break into our lives,
Christ is coming,
Christ is coming to make all things new.

We pray that God’s reign might come,
That the world might believe,
That the powerful might stumble,
That the humble might be raised,
Christ is coming,
Christ is coming to make all things new.

Hallelujah, Amen.

This prayer was adapted from "Cloth for the Cradle: Worship Resources and Readings for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany."

Christ is coming to make all things new.
