Get Involved

Worship services during the 2005 National GatheringGod's grace in Jesus Christ moves us to help our neighbors, whether they live in the next house, the next state or the next continent. Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. Our partners represent a broad spectrum of church organizations and faith communities—Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox.

Working with Bread for the World—and using the educational resources we provide—will encourage members of your church to address the root causes of hunger. By changing policies, programs and conditions that allow hunger and poverty.

Encourage your church to:

Reach Out to Congress

Bread for the World churches help to make our nation's laws more fair and compassionate to people in need by communicating with members of Congress through letters, email, phone calls, and face-to-face visits. Throughout the year, Bread for the World provides information, resources and updates on issues important to hungry people.

Hold an Offering of Letters

Each year, Bread for the World invites churches across the country to take up an Offering of Letters to Congress on an issue that is important to hungry people. Church members nationwide write letters to their elected officials. These letters are often brought forward with the Sunday offering and offered to God for blessing before mailing. Spring is the ideal time to hold an Offering of Letters.

Studies show that even in this era of email, handwritten, personal letters are still the most powerful way to reach members of Congress.

Celebrate Bread for the World Sunday in the Fall

Each fall, churches across the country affirm their commitment to fighting hunger by celebrating Bread for the World Sunday. During these worship services, congregations rededicate themselves to ending hunger in God's world and praying for those in need.

Support Bread for the World Financially

Bread for the World's mission depends on generous contributions from churches and individuals. Some churches make a gift once or twice a year after a special collection or event. Others make a financial commitment to Bread for the World from their annual budget. Many churches send a gift each month. Contributing churches are considered Bread for the World members and receive our church newsletter and other free resources. Send an email to

Become a Covenant Church

Strengthen your church's mission and ministry through a Covenant Church relationship with Bread for the World. When you make a commitment to integrate hunger concerns into the life of your congregation, Bread for the World provides tools—including staff consultation—to help your church learn more about hunger, pray for hungry people, and advocate for changes in public policy. As part of the covenant, churches also make a substantial contribution to Bread for the World. These gifts average $500 yearly, although some give as much as $5,000. No matter the amount your church can afford to give, what is important is your church's commitment.
