How to Listen to Breadcast

It really isn't hard to listen to Breadcast. You don't even need an iPod (but they are pretty fun to have). You can listen right on your computer. Essentially, you're getting a personalized radio show every month that has insightful features about hunger and poverty. Think "This American Life" but with a special focus on issues Bread for the World members want to hear about in particular.

Here's the technical information presented in a non-geeky way (If you want, you can skip right down to "But what does this mean for me..."):

  • Streaming is simply audio playing from your computer. We place links to every edition of breadcast here so you can listen on your computer at any time. You will need Windows Media Player to listen. Click here to download the version that's right for your operating system (available FREE for both PC & MAC users)
  • Podcasting is a word that has become synonymous with a kind of Web-based broadcasting, much the way people say "Hand me a Kleenex" whey mean "I need a tissue." A Podcast is an audio file that has been sent to a server (like iTunes) and can be transferred automatically into your iPod or other MP3 player. (Some places also offer Video Podcasts. But Bread isn't quite there yet; look for it in the fall.)

What does all of this mean for mean for me and Breadcast listeners?

We offer two options to hear the show.

  • Download the show to your computer by right-clicking the "Listen" link and "save file as" to save to your computer. Then, save it on your desktop and click on the file name after it has finished downloading. You can also drag it to your portable listening device/MP3 player (i.e. iPod, Zune, SanDisk)
  • Subscribe to the Podcast through iTunes and every time you plug your iPod into your computer, any new shows that are available will downloaded to your computer and synced to your iPod automatically.

Just visit the Breadcast page and you'll see what's in the latest edition of the show. The links to the most recent episode are listed first. Then scroll down the page if you'd like to listen to archived editions.
