Jesus wouldn't cut programs for poor

Bread for the World is a faith-based organization that advocates for
programs that fight hunger and poverty. At this month's national
conference, the focus was on placing a "Circle of Protection" around
these programs. Because they protect the most vulnerable, they should
be exempt from spending cuts to reduce the federal deficit.
Nearly
two-thirds of the budget cuts in the House budget resolution are to
programs that assist low-income Americans (Center for Budget and Policy
Priorities). The Brookings Institution reports that nearly all of these
reductions would go to finance tax cuts, including for those who make
$375,000 or more, and not to reduce the deficits.
The time is short. Urge your senators and congressman to resist cuts in programs that support the hungry and poor. What would Jesus do?
