Hunger Among Hispanics on the Decline

Washington, DC, October 9, 2014 – Hunger and poverty among Hispanic households declined last year, according to a Bread for the World analysis released today. The findings, based on the latest U.S. Census data, show that one of the biggest contributing factors to this decline is a decrease in unemployment. Unemployment fell from 8.1 percent in 2012 to 7.4 percent in 2013. Read more »

Bread for the World Highlights the 10 Hungriest and Poorest States

Washington, DC, September 30, 2014 – The states with the highest proportion of hungry and poor people are in the South, according to a Bread for the World analysis of the latest U.S. Census data. Several states in the region account for large portions of the more than 49 million Americans who were at risk of hunger and 45 million Americans who lived in poverty last year. Read more »

Feed the Future Legislation Introduced in Congress

Washington, DC, September 19, 2014 – Members of the House and Senate yesterday each introduced legislation to authorize the Feed the Future Initiative. The House’s Feed the Future Global Food Security Act of 2014 and the Senate’s Global Food Security Act of 2014 were introduced by Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) and Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), respectively. The bills are cosponsored by Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) and Sens. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.). Read more »
