Hollywood Celebrities Urge Fans to Support Bread for the World
Washington, DC, December 2, 2011
Actors Kevin Bacon and John Stamos will ask their fans to make donations to Bread for the World, one of their favorite hunger organizations. The request is part of a holiday hunger fundraising campaign organized by Bacon’s charitable initiative, SixDegrees.org, in partnership with Network for Good.
“I woke up this morning and had a good meal, but millions of people didn’t,” said Bacon. “We at SixDegrees.org are excited to promote ‘6 Days of Good for Hunger’ to bring attention to the cause and inspire giving, especially this time of year.”
From Dec. 1-6, Bacon and several other celebrities, including John Stamos, Lindsay Lohan, Jeff Bridges, Charlie Sheen, and Jeff Gordon, will urge their fans to support hunger organizations.
“One in six Americans—including 16 million children—lives in a house where they don’t get enough to eat,” said Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World. “We are thankful that Kevin Bacon and John Stamos are using their celebrity to raise awareness about hunger and the work Bread for the World is doing to end it.”
Bacon and Stamos will ask their Facebook fans and Twitter followers to support Bread for the World on Saturday, Dec. 3. The celebrities are also urging fans to support their local food banks. According to SixDegrees.org, a small donation can make a big difference in the life of a hungry person:
· $26 = helps provide 200 meals
· $46 = helps feed a family of four for one month
· $66 = helps provide 500 meals
· $106 = helps feed a family of four for two months
Celebrities will also be supporting the Food Bank for New York City, Feeding America, Share Our Strength, Drive to End Hunger, and Meals on Wheels Association of America. For every $1 donated to Bread for the World, the organization helps win more than $100 in assistance for hungry and poor people in the United States and around the world.
Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad.
