A Victory for Food-Aid Reform

Washington, DC, May 23, 2014

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved its fiscal year 2015 Agriculture Appropriations bill yesterday.

The bill includes an amendment introduced by Sens. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) to provide $35 million for food-aid reform efforts.

Thanks to advocates, the Johanns-Leahy Amendment passed the appropriations committee markup by a vote of 16 to 14.

This funding will increase flexibility and improve efficiency of U.S. food aid, allowing this vital assistance to reach more people in a timely manner.

Please contact members of the Senate Appropriations Committee and thank them for supporting the Johanns-Leahy amendment to provide $35 million for flexibility of food aid in the Agriculture Appropriations bill.

This funding will help feed an additional 200,000 people in need!
