Ask Congress to feed hungry

Do you care about people who are hungry and in poverty? Right now, let your newly elected member of Congress know. Explain why hunger and poverty require his attention.

Your effective letter to a member of Congress needs these things: 1. Your name and address at the end of your letter and on the envelope. 2. Offer congratulations. Thank him for his service on behalf of our state. 3. Ask for specific action. Ask him to make reducing hunger and poverty a priority. 4. Give reasons: a) Reducing hunger and poverty is important to you. b) 4.5 million more Americans suffer from hunger and poverty than at the start of the decade. c) Worldwide, the number of hungry people had risen to 923 million at the end of 2007 - an increase of 75 million.

You may also mention that in 2009 Bread for the World will begin a campaign to reform foreign assistance so that it better meets the needs of hungry people. It also will continue to work to improve U.S. child nutrition programs.
