To the editor:
The need for a sound economic recovery bill is on everyone's mind, although members of Congress and the general public are not of one mind as to the particulars.
But I believe there may be one part of the stimulus package on which most of us can agree — the need for a strong support of the people whose safety net has been inadequate for some time and therefore have been most directly impacted by the recession. This support includes such basics as expanded food stamp benefits, unemployment insurance and refundable tax credits. Investment in these programs will not only assist the families in need, but in turn stimulate the economy and produce or retain jobs, helping to move our economy toward recovery.
Please call Sens. Snowe and Collins at 1-800-224-3121 to voice your support for these priorities.
