Kudos to Bachus for debt relief effort

When friends and colleagues deserve strong praise for a job well done or an accomplishment, I always offer kudos to them. While normally the best word available to heap praise on someone, kudos seems inadequate as I strive to recognize and thank U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus of Alabama for being a committed and consistent champion of debt relief, which is paying multiple dividends in the economic recovery and development of the world's poorest countries.
This month, the House passed the Jubilee Act for Responsible Lending and Expanded Debt Cancellation. This bill, co-sponsored in the best bipartisan spirit by Bachus and U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters of California, will expand eligibility for 100 percent debt cancellation without harmful economic conditions to 67 impoverished countries in the Global South and build on the original Jubilee Act, sponsored by Bachus in 1999.
Bachus' unfailing commitment to "the least of these" deserves the strongest accolade.
