Prayer of Dedication
God, your grace in Jesus Christ moves us to work for justice for hungry people. We ask you to use these letters—our faith in action—to change policies that allow hunger and poverty to persist. Give us persistence, God, since change takes time, and we must come back to our nation's decision makers again and again. Move us from our own vision of scarcity, to embrace your vision of abundance. Please open the hearts and minds of all those who read these letters. In Christ's name we pray—Amen
Litany
Leader: God, because a boy freely gave his meal of five loaves and two fish and you used his offering,
All: A multitude was fed. We give you thanks and praise, O God.
Leader: We know that you hear the prayers of the mother in Mozambique whose child is crying for food. We know that you hear the prayer of the father in Guatemala who is trying to make ends meet and feed his family.
All: Let them be fed. We beseech you, God of mercy and justice.
Leader: Give us the conviction to answer your call to serve and to speak out for hungry people. We believe that you are moving in our time to end hunger, and we are grateful that you include us as a part of this great liberation.
All: Let us be fed. Open our hearts, our eyes and ears, our hands, gracious and holy God.
Leader: We pray for the leaders of our nation—the decision makers who can change policies and redirect funding to create help and opportunity with the stroke of pen.
All: Let them be moved. Open their hearts, their eyes and ears, their hands, Lord of life and God of history.
Leader: Thank you, Loving God, for helping us turn our faith into action, for amplifying our voices. Thank you that when we speak out for hungry people, the miracle of the loaves and fish happens again and again.
All: Let the multitude be fed once again. Let your Spirit move in our midst, God of peace and joy. Amen.
