Bread Slices: Why Development Works
Development Works. New Bread Resource Helps Explain Why
Bread for the World Institute introduces Development Works, seven short essays that make the case for effective international development assistance. They focus on telling stories about people who are improving their lives with the help of U.S. development assistance—and on clearing up common misconceptions. Development Works is for Bread members and activists, Hunger Justice Leaders, adult Sunday school teachers, and others who need information about our international advocacy work. This series helps people get a clearer picture of what is happening today in the struggle against global hunger and extreme poverty. Find this new resource series on the Bread for the World website: www.bread.org/developmentworks.
Make a Resolution to Give Monthly to End Hunger
This year, resolve to join the growing number of Bread for the World members who are working to end hunger through regular monthly gifts. This dedicated group of over 4,000 members constitutes our Baker's Dozen program, making monthly gifts through their credit card or electronic funds transfer. For just $10 a month, your contribution will provide a predictable stream of financial support, enabling Bread to make efficient plans for the future. The amount saved in gift processing, membership reminders, and administrative costs equals the value of a 13th gift—a baker’s dozen. Please consider joining this cost effective program to sustain our work on behalf of hungry people. For more information or to join Baker's Dozen call 1-800-822-7323 or visit www.bread.org/go/bakersdozen.
Lenten Prayers for Hungry People
Bread for the World's yearly Lenten resource — featuring scripture readings, prayers, and actions for each of the five weeks of Lent as well as Holy Week — is now available for members to order for use in their churches, Bible study and small groups, and other settings. Ash Wednesday comes early this year (February 13) so visit www.bread.org/lent now to be sure you receive copies in time.
Thank You for Your Extra Generosity at the End of the Year!
Because of you and other Bread members, we were able to reach and exceed our $100,000 online matching gift goal between December 20 and 31 — raising more than $120,000. This means that $100,000 of the total was matched dollar for dollar by several generous Bread donors bringing our grand total raised to $220,000! Thank you for your generosity!
