Bread's National Gathering was the rollout of its new Bread Rising campaign, which aims to end hunger by 2030. Poverty around the world has been cut in half since 1990. We see this as God moving in our time. We are at a turning point in history, when nations are moving toward a collective goal of ending hunger and extreme poverty by 2030.
Ending hunger, however, requires strong leadership from the United States. The 2016 presidential election is an opportunity to elect leaders who will make ending hunger and poverty a national priority by 2017. Without U.S. leadership, we cannot end hunger and extreme poverty throughout the world.
We know that we as Bread for the World cannot reach this goal alone. We will work with our extensive network of church and advocacy partners as a part of a larger movement. We also know that God is with us, just as God has been with us throughout history.
We ask you and your friends to increase your commitments to prayer, activism, and giving. We ask that you commit yourself to ongoing prayers for the end of hunger; redouble your commitment to advocacy; provide the resources to help us leverage the big changes that are needed to end hunger.
Bread Rising started about three years ago, as we began planning for the long-term and for our 2014 to 2016 plan. Stay tuned as we roll out the campaign further in the next few months.
