Thanksgiving is a time when we express our gratitude. This can be difficult in a world where rampant hunger and poverty still exist.
However, at Bread for the World, we see rays of hope through the fog of sorrow. People across the sea go hungry, but recent efforts to improve foreign aid will reduce that number drastically. Here at home, one in five American children is at risk of hunger, but our tireless efforts to pass a strong child nutrition bill mean more children will be fed.
All is not won, but all is certainly not lost — and for this I am thankful.
This gratitude is because of Bread for the World members like you. Your letters to Congress helped pass anti-hunger laws we never thought would see the light of day. Your persistent advocacy moved our legislature to do what’s right. Because of your efforts, one less person will go hungry.
As you gather around the table today with your loved ones, please say a prayer for people experiencing hunger and poverty. Be thankful for our progress, and be hopeful for the work we have yet to do.
Today, I am grateful for you. Thank you for your advocacy and love. Happy Thanksgiving.
