Editor's note: Each week of the Advent season, Bread for the World is posting a prayer for our members and friends.
Joy
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,
give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
God of joy, we seek you.
Here and around the world
we see misery and pain.
Our world is imperfect and
darkness clouds our vision.
God of joy, we seek you.
As we bring light to dark places in the world,
we pause in this advent season to prepare anew
for the birth of your son, Jesus, a sign of your love for us:
joy and assurance when we need it most.
God of joy, we seek you.
May your joy fill our hearts
and grace our lips so that we might
reflect your joy to all the world.
Amen.
God of joy, we seek you.
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in faith.” These words from Colossians 2:6 remind us of the faith that is active in love for our neighbors.
