It’s budget season in Congress. As dreary as that may sound, it’s actually a good time for you as an activist to plant some seeds and raise some ideas. Congress is thinking about funding priorities for fiscal year 2017, and plans are being formed. Your members of Congress need to hear that increased funding for global maternal and child nutrition should be a priority!

Call (800/826-3688) or email your senators or representative today. Urge them to sign a bipartisan letter asking colleagues for robust funding for global maternal and child nutrition.

“Dear colleague” letters are a way for members of Congress to drum up support among each other on certain issues. There are now bipartisan Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition letters in both the House and the Senate. These letters express support for robust funding for life-saving programs for women and children globally for the next fiscal year.

The letters are open to signatures from all members of Congress until this Wednesday, March 16, when they will be sent to House and Senate appropriators — those who actually slice up the budget pie. A bunch of signatures from colleagues on this issue can have a lot of influence on this group.

Call or email your senators or representative today. Tell them you want a name on the line in support of maternal and child health and nutrition.
