God has called me to journey with people through life’s challenges—a journey that has brought me to Washington, D.C., today, along with over 300 people to talk to my members of Congress about the farm bill.

We need your voice too! Call (800-826-3688) or email your members of Congress and urge them to pass a bipartisan farm bill that protects and strengthens domestic and international nutrition programs.

As a Peruvian immigrant pastor, I never imagined that my ministry would take me to the halls of such power. But I have learned that advocacy is necessary in our world. When the most vulnerable are being pushed further into the margins, we must speak up.

Having grown up in one of the poorest villages on the outskirts of Lima, Peru, I understand how economic disparity can increase hunger and limit opportunity. The House version of the farm bill would increase hunger and hardship by cutting access to vital nutrition programs for millions of Americans. Over 200,000 children would be at risk of losing access to school lunches. African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans would be disproportionately affected by the legislation. The Senate’s version of the farm bill protects SNAP from these harmful policy changes.

Today, I’m asking my members to make the better choice. I hope you will join me.
