The days are shorter. The weather has turned cold. And the news is filled with stories of struggle and strife. But in the midst of this, the spirit of the season fills me with hope.
Most of us could probably use a little more hope in our lives. And I doubt few people could use it more than people facing the holidays wondering how they will put food on the table.
Your support today will help fight hunger by:
- Urging our elected officials to implement laws and budgets that are fair, compassionate, and address the critical needs of the many people who are dealing with the daily reality of being hungry and poor.
- Making our collective Christian voice heard loud and clear in the halls of Congress through personal letters and emails, meetings with members of Congress, and our tireless work with agencies and organizations involved in the fight to end hunger.
- Engaging people in life-changing, hard-hitting advocacy through Bread’s work with churches and campuses around the country.
It is shameful that in the United States, one of the world’s wealthiest nations, nearly one in five children lives in a household that struggles to put food on the table. And an overwhelming 46.7 million of our brothers and sisters are living below the poverty line. Together we can confront this stark reality head-on and bring real change and hope for the future to all who are suffering.
This month, Bread has an ambitious goal to raise $200,000 by midnight on December 31. This will ensure we start the year off with the resources we need to protect domestic child nutrition programs, the international Feed the Future program, and more.
We have a challenging year ahead of us, but I know that with God’s help and the support of compassionate Christians like you, we can win more assistance for people who are suffering.
