Vote to End Hunger:
A Faith-Based Approach to Engaging the 2026 Elections
At Bread for the World, we believe that voting is not just a right, but a responsibility. As people of faith, voting is an important way in which we can respond to God’s call to love our neighbors.
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus displays a particular heart for those who experience poverty, hunger, and vulnerability. It is our faith in Christ that compels us to love our neighbors near and far, and to work toward a world where every person can flourish.
There are many faithful ways to help end hunger, but Bread for the World focuses on advocacy because public policy has the power to transform millions of lives. Federal nutrition programs, for example, provide roughly 10 times as much food assistance as churches and charities combined. The decisions made by our elected leaders shape whether children, families, and communities have access to the food and resources they need.
In the United States, we have both the privilege and the responsibility to choose those leaders. Our votes help determine the policies that affect hunger at home and around the world. The 2026 midterm elections are an opportunity to put your faith into action by supporting leaders who are committed to ending hunger.
Pledge today to vote for candidates who will make ending hunger a priority.
Four Ways You Can Engage in the 2026 Elections
Ending hunger requires faithful engagement throughout the election season. These four actions will help you pray, learn, speak up, and vote in ways that reflect God’s call to love our neighbors.
1. Pray for the Electoral Process

Through prayer, we’re reminded of our deep connection to God and our collective need for divine guidance. It’s a powerful act that prepares our hearts to engage faithfully this election season. As we pray for candidates, elected leaders, and ourselves, we ask God to grant wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to justice.
This is our prayer for congressional candidates. Join us in praying:
Creator God, through our elected leaders and our government, you sustain all you have made.
We pray especially for people who are seeking election to political offices in our country. Grant them integrity and wisdom to focus on matters that strengthen our government and protect the most vulnerable among us.
Give us courage to challenge candidates to address issues of hunger and poverty. As we prepare to cast our votes, may we be guided by your vision of justice and mercy.
In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen.
2. Urge Candidates to Lead on Hunger

Ending hunger in the U.S. and around the world will require, in part, leaders in Washington, D.C. who make it a priority. There are 470 seats in Congress (35 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) up for election in November. This is why it is critical to engage all of the candidates on hunger issues.
The leaders we elect make decisions that impact people who are experiencing hunger and poverty here in the United States and around the world. Decisive action by members of Congress can help us move toward a world without hunger.
One of the most effective ways to engage candidates is to ask for their stances on ending hunger. Start by gathering a group of people, and together ask the candidates these three questions:
- If elected, what will you do to end hunger, alleviate poverty, and create opportunity in the United States and worldwide?
- Will you publicize your position on hunger, poverty, and opportunity on your website and on social media?
- Will you meet with us within the first 30 days of taking office?
