ACT

Donate Now. Help End Hunger.

Every dollar you give to support our advocacy helps Bread for the World secure hundreds of dollars in lifesaving assistance for families in the United States and around the world.

Make a Gift

Our persistent and faithful advocacy has transformed the lives of millions of people, but we couldn’t do it without you.

For every dollar you donate, Bread helps win hundreds of dollars in federal government assistance for people experiencing hunger and poverty in the U.S. and around the world. That’s a powerful return on your investment to build pathways out of poverty.

We take our role as fiscal stewards seriously. We work to keep our overhead rate low and maximize the impact of every gift entrusted to us.

Give Monthly. Join the Baker’s Dozen

Join our Baker’s Dozen monthly giving program and help end hunger every month of the year. Your sustained support will provide the vital resources necessary for our advocacy together, equip our members to take action now, and organize like-minded advocates across the nation, month after month. Monthly giving is also easy—the amount you choose is automatically charged each month, and you can cancel or change your commitment at any time.

Tax-Smart Giving

Charitable Distribution from IRAs

If you are 70½ years and older, you may want to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA directly to Bread for the World Institute. These gifts are not taxable income but can satisfy part or all of the required minimum withdrawal from an IRA, so they may be helpful even to non-itemizers. And QCDs offer other tax benefits for you and your family now and in the future.

Stocks and Securities

Gifts of stock may provide a double tax benefit. If you have held a stock for a year and a day, you may transfer it to Bread for the World Institute and receive a tax deduction for the full market value of the stock. And charitable transfers of stock can be a way to avoid capital gains taxes.

Gifts of stock can also be made to Bread for the World. They are not tax-deductible, but they can be a way to avoid capital gains taxes on stocks that have appreciated significantly.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Many Bread members use charitable gift annuities to provide lifetime income at a fixed rate of return — and to make a substantial gift to Bread for the World Institute in the future.

With a charitable gift annuity, you can receive fixed payments for life — with possible tax savings — and support our work to end hunger.

Charitable gift annuities can be funded with gifts of cash, long-term appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual funds. In the year in which you make a gift to set up a charitable gift annuity, you may be entitled to a tax deduction for your gift.

Bread for the World members who are 65 years or older may contribute $10,000 or more to establish a gift annuity through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Foundation. Gift annuity rates were recently increased, so your guaranteed annual income may be higher than you expected.

You may request, without cost or obligation, a confidential illustration of your annuity payments and possible tax deductions.

For more information and for a confidential, personalized illustration of the tax and income benefits you might receive with a charitable gift annuity, please contact:
