Faith into Action: Saves Medicaid

By Rev. David Beckmann

Once again, your advocacy efforts worked!

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that the Cassidy-Graham bill would not come to the floor for a vote. That’s a win for us and especially for the millions of Americans who depend on Medicaid.

Cassidy-Graham sought to cut Medicaid by $1 trillion. While the Senate tried to rally votes for the measure, we rallied our supporters to stop it. Bread members made thousands of calls, sent hundreds of emails, and visited more than a dozen Senate offices urging senators to protect Medicaid from drastic cuts. Thanks to your efforts, we helped stop this bill in its tracks.

But the fight isn’t over. McConnell promised to bring up healthcare reform again. Congress also hopes to pass a budget resolution for fiscal year 2018 as early as next week — meaning that the threat of drastic cuts to Medicaid, and other important safety-net programs, is still real.

We’ll need your help to stop these harmful cuts.

Thank you for putting your faith into action once again. And thanks be to God, who guided us in this effort.
