Bread for the World welcomes latest U.S. investment in international aid, urges additional funding for nutrition and health services

Bread for the World issued the following statement from Rev. Heather Taylor, Interim President and CEO, on the Trump administration’s announcement of nearly $2 billion in health and humanitarian assistance to faith-based organizations.

“We are encouraged by the Trump administration’s commitment of nearly $2 billion in health and humanitarian assistance to support the hunger, nutrition, and health needs of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. This vital assistance will be delivered by several faith-based organizations and consortiums with decades of experience in delivering lifesaving assistance. The administration’s latest investment affirms what Bread for the World has long recognized: that faith-based organizations are trusted, effective partners in the work of ending hunger and disease worldwide.”

“Last year’s cuts to global health, nutrition, and food assistance programs were a significant setback in the shared work to end hunger. This recent funding announcement marks a major step in the right direction. We understand that additional funding is currently being considered, and we remain hopeful that this will come to fruition. We look forward to continuing to work with the administration and Members of Congress to identify opportunities to increase investments in essential food aid, malnutrition treatment, maternal health services, and global health programs like PEPFAR.”
