We’re getting closer!

By Rev. David Beckmann

With only a few days left in the month, time is running out to be part of our membership renewal drive. Almost 200 people have contributed already, but we still need 100 more to reach our goal. And that’s important, because what we’re able to accomplish this year depends completely on the strength and generosity of our membership

Over the past year, Bread members have made huge strides against hunger, including:

  • Tax credits for low-income working families: Congress maintained improvements to the tax code that will prevent 16 million people — more than the entire population of Illinois — from falling into poverty or being pulled even further into its grasp.
  • Tackling root causes of hunger in Central America: Because of advocates like you, Congress recognized the root of the problem of unaccompanied children crossing the border and set aside $750 million to help struggling communities get back on their feet.
  • $10 million for emergency food aid: This allows our government to buy more food from farmers close to the location of a crisis, boosting efficiency and saving lives.

Your voice is being heard on Capitol Hill, and that’s why we need you with us. We’ll need every ounce of influence we have to ensure that our country’s children are fed this summer. Will you stand with us? Renew your membership or join today. Anything you can give will make a difference.

Rev. David Beckmann is the president of Bread for the World.
