Bread for the World Honors Rep. Sam Farr for Leadership in the Fight to End Hunger

Washington, D.C. —Bread for the World will honor Rep. Sam Farr (D-CA) with a lifetime hunger champion award in recognition of his continued leadership on issues affecting hungry and poor people in the United States and around the world. The award will be given as part of the organization’s 2016 Lobby Day on June 7.

“We are proud to honor Rep. Sam Farr for his ongoing commitment to ending hunger worldwide,” said Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World. “Our work would not be possible without the leadership and support of powerful anti-hunger champions in Congress.”

Farr served on the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee protecting domestic and international anti-hunger programs. Because of his efforts, millions of people, including children, have been able to receive meals around the world.

“We are thankful for Rep. Farr’s many years of service in Congress. He has been a champion in the House of Representatives on issues impacting hungry and poor people around the world,” continued Beckmann.

Lobby Day offers Bread for the World activists a unique opportunity to personally communicate with members of Congress and their staffers on hunger-related issues. Participants are encouraged to ask their members of Congress to support the reauthorization of the law that secures funding and determines policy for child nutrition programs.

In addition to Farr, Bread for the World will honor Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).
